I checked the option of no strap lug problem, but I should say that I don't allow the camera with any lens heavier than my 12-60 SWD to hang by the strap. I have stopped using a safety cord tied between the 2 strap ends that looked a mess, but would hold the camera on the surviving lug, thinking let what will happen happen. I was on a sub panic with my EM5 over this as I read some reports of problems though I suspect many people now on the forum are probably not aware of the existence of any camera bar the EM1 Mk I and II's. How likely is this to happen? How concerned are current E-M1 owners about this issue? Good questions. If this accident happened at the wrong time, camera and lens could both be lost or destroyed. Perhaps foremost among them, at least in terms of making users nervous, would be reports that the camera strap lugs can pull loose from the camera body. Thanks to Olympus' regular firmware updates, the E-M1 is still a great camera, even as we head into 2017. With news of the higher-than-hoped launch price for the forthcoming Olympus E-M1 Mark II, many are saying: "Looks like I'll stay with my E-M1 after all." Others may have noted how low the E-M1 prices are lately, and are considering buying one. They would have sold a heck of a lot more E-M1's considering how widespread the reports on forums like this were.Īnd I remain uncertain whether these issues have been remedied in new E-M1's being sold today, right back where I was a year ago. I remain amazed that Olympus didn't come out early on in its production with fixes and an announcement on same. The E-M1 is a camera I definitely would have bought last November with some great Black Friday deals (actually they lasted about a month on GetOlympus), but instead bought an E-M10 II in large part due to the reported issues with, of all things on a "Pro" body, simple mechanical parts. Just shows the E-M1 is back on a lot of people's minds after the, ahem, higher (by close to 45%) than anticipated price increase of its successor.
(By the way, the reason that I focussed specifically on the strap lugs was that, in the worst case, a strap lug failure could result in a smashed camera and/or lens, or even a lost camera - if one were photographing near the sea, for example.)
